Y12 geographers took on an active learning task this week, recapping their knowledge of factors affecting population structure by creating edible population pyramids.
Students had to carry out a variety of tasks that influenced their pyramids, for example the effects of family planning, natural disasters, war, and migration all taking their toll on different elements of their structure and cohorts. Why do the young and the elderly succumb more to illness and disease? Why does population growth change according to the base population? How can being educated alter birth rates?
