Y7 Geography of crime

Y7 geographers have been carrying out surveys this week of Onchan Village Walk shopping area, to look for features of designing out crime.

Students were tasked to observe areas which could be targets for crime or anti-social behaviour, and then map possible solutions that are used such as anti-climb paint. They were also asked to consider how the appearance and maintenance of places can either encourage or deter vandalism. The students are going to use the information gained to compare with the more modern designs and systems to prevent crime used around the school site, as well as using a special video resource made by ex-SNHS geographer PC Greaves about the redevelopment at Pulrose.

This project enables students to consider perceptions of their local areas, and also encourages a greater awareness of social responsibility.imgres
